Illustrative sample · Version 1

A WebCenter Estate Review decision pack.

A fictional example of the structure and reasoning your team can inspect. No customer environment, measurements or completed project outcomes are represented here.

Your browser’s Print command also works. The three sections below include the example’s assumptions and limitations.

01 · The estate and the decision

Choose a path after confirming the dependencies.

The fictional sponsor is considering a platform change while keeping document intake, task processing and ERP document access available. The sample assumes those connections exist. Their versions, configuration and operational readiness are deliberately unverified.

Fictional document and business-process dependency mapCapture sends documents to Content. Workflow uses document references from Content and exchanges transaction information with the ERP. ERP users retrieve documents from Content. Identity and operational recovery are shared dependencies.CaptureDocument intakeContentRepository and accessWorkflowTasks and integrationERPBusiness recordDocument retrievalShared dependencies: identity · storage · backup and recovery
  1. Capture → ContentDocuments enter the repository.
  2. Content → WorkflowTasks use document references.
  3. Workflow → ERPTransaction information crosses the interface.
  4. ERP → ContentAuthorized users retrieve the linked document.
Assumed for this example. The arrows describe business dependencies, not a verified physical topology or a supported integration design. Identity, storage and recovery require their own checks.

Question to answer

Which change meets the business requirement without leaving an unowned document or workflow dependency?

Evidence boundary

A synthetic process sketch only. No system access, configuration inspection, user testing or recovery test has taken place.

02 · Findings and open questions

Make uncertainty actionable.

These are illustrative findings. Each connects a missing fact to a decision and names a proposed role to resolve it.

F1

Evidence needed

Release eligibility is unresolved

Example basis
The fictional inventory names the products but omits exact releases and patch levels.
Decision affected
A supported target and upgrade path cannot yet be selected.
Next evidence
Collect the release inventory, then check product certifications, interoperability and contractual support.
Proposed owner
Platform owner

F2

Assumed dependency

Document links need an acceptance contract

Example basis
The example assumes that a user opens a stored document from the ERP.
Decision affected
Changing storage or an interface requires proof that the link and the user’s access still work.
Next evidence
Document the identifier mapping and authorized-user behavior; agree positive and negative retrieval tests.
Proposed owner
Integration and business owners

F3

Not demonstrated

Recovery readiness is unknown

Example basis
No restore rehearsal is supplied in this fictional evidence set.
Decision affected
A production change window cannot be approved from backup availability alone.
Next evidence
Identify a consistent recovery point and demonstrate restoration in an isolated environment.
Proposed owner
Operations owner

03 · Decision and recommended sequence

Resolve the evidence gaps before selecting delivery.

Illustrative recommendation: proceed with scoped discovery.

This evidence set cannot justify selecting an upgrade, hosting move or workload replacement. Confirm the starting facts and acceptance requirements, then compare the applicable options. No implementation path or cost ranking is approved by this sample.

Retain and upgrade

Check the supported path, customization compatibility and available rehearsal window.

Change hosting

Check operational requirements and integration latency. Hosting alone does not change product support eligibility.

Replace a defined workload

Check retained records, access rules, active work and the responsibilities that remain with the existing estate.

  1. Resolve the starting facts

Confirm releases, boundaries, ownership and the business requirement. Link each conclusion to the evidence reviewed.

Decision gate: The dependency map and inventory are agreed.

  2. Compare applicable options

Assess retaining and upgrading, changing hosting, or replacing a defined workload against the confirmed constraints.

Decision gate: The sponsor understands the tradeoffs and remaining unknowns.

  3. Rehearse the selected approach

Agree the implementation scope, acceptance tests and recovery conditions. Test the selected approach before committing to production.

Decision gate: Observed results support a separate go/no-go decision.

Review meeting agenda

Confirm the process boundary; challenge the assumptions; assign the open evidence requests; agree the next decision and the conditions needed to make it. Dates, effort and commercial terms belong in the actual agreed scope.
